1-25-12: Mass exodus as we left
Martinique this morning. We were one of at least 12 boats stacked
up to head north - they had apparently been waiting for the same weather
we were. Unfortunately, the forecast was off a bit with much bigger
winds and seas than expected. When not in the lee of an island, we
sailed with one reef in the main and 2 in the jib as the apparent winds
were hovering around 26 knots. |

2-3-12: A "spirited" sail from Dominica
this morning. We were double reefed on the main and single to double
reefed on the jib and made fantastic time. The seas were big, but

couldn't stand the rolling anymore. We had a fairly comfortable crossing
to the lee of Guadeloupe, then variable winds all the way to Deshaies.

2-1-12: We left Deshaies at sunset so we
would have a morning arrival in St. Kitts. Started off pretty bouncy and
stayed that way most of the night, but at least we had a nearly full
moon after 11 pm. Things smoothed out before dawn and we were
treated to a beautiful sunrise. |
