2-22-10: We got underway after a
quick stop in town for some fresh produce. It was a bouncy but
fast and good sail. We are moored near Windward Passage and have
already been snorkeling. Our first time in the water we saw two
giant rays and one small one, lots of puffer fish and conch. We
have our order in
with Walter for chocolate
croissants and a couple baguettes in the morning. We're going to
like it here. The view from our bow is of "Isla del Muerte" (or really
Petitie Tobac) from Pirates of the Caribbean. |

side of Mayreau. Will join Windward Passage and Aisling for dinner
tonight at Island Paradise. |
3-5-10
Saline Bay, Mayreau - Admiralty Bay, Bequia Crew: Gregg, Jen,
Quinn
0844 - underway |
12°38.059'N,

|
3-5-10: Left Windward Passage and
Aisling early this morning after our croissants and baguette from
Walter. Back in Bequia to get some things taken care of, i.e.,
propane tank refilled, provisioning, laundry, etc. |
3-10-10
Admiralty Bay, Bequia - Young Island Cut, St. Vincent Crew: Gregg, Jen,
Quinn
0852 - underway |
13°00.494'N,
61°14.313'W |
|
1028 - Moored at Young Island Cut |
13°08.032'N,
61°12.162'W |
|
3-10-10: Windward Passage left us
yesterday, bound for Mustique. We decided to hang out in Bequia
one more day before going to St. Vincent today. Short trip - we
tried again to fish with no luck. During the sail, we only put out
the jib, double reefed. But, we noticed that two seems on the jib
are coming apart so we'll need a windless day to take it down and fix
it. We plan to stay here just for a
couple nights so Gregg can dive tomorrow. |
3-12-10
Young Island Cut, St. Vincent - Soufriere, St. Lucia Crew: Gregg, Jen,
Quinn
0612 - underway |
13°08.019'N,
61°12.159'W |
|
1000 |
13°27.500'N,
61°12.327'W |
|
1451 - Moored at Anse Mitan in the shadow
of Petit Piton, St. Lucia |
13°50.397'N,
61°03.876'W |
|
3-12-10: Nice sail today -
comfortable and fast. On the way, we stopped and looked around at
Willalibou Bay, where some of the sets remain from the Pirates of the
Caribbean movies, in addition to the rock arch from the opening scene of
the first movie. The landfall at St. Lucia was stunning, although
it is clear that the draught has severely impacted the flora. |
3-13-10
Soufriere, St. Lucia Crew: Gregg, Jen,
Quinn |
13°50.397'N,
61°03.876'W |
|
1030 - Moored @ Anse Mitan |
13°50.604'N,
61°03.797'W |
|
3-13-10: Had to change moorings
because we were on a superyacht mooring for the night and today they
need the mooring. Now we are moored with a stern line tied to a
tree on shore. Interesting. |
3-14-10
Soufriere, St. Lucia Crew: Gregg, Jen,
Quinn |
13°50.604'N,
61°03.797'W |
|
1017 - Moored @ Bat Caves, Soufriere |
13°51.410'N,
61°03.971'W |
|
1219 - Moored @ Anse Mitan |
13°50.542'N,
61°03.810'W |
|
3-14-10: Displeased with our
current situation (very close moorings where all boats run stern lines
to shore and long distance dinghy ride to snorkeling), we decided to try
moving to the Bat Cave area, which is better for snorkeling.
Unfortunately, once we got there we found the anchorage WAY too
uncomfortable, so we moved back to the Anse Mitan area, but closer to
snorkeling and onto a mooring that does not require a stern line. |
3-17-10
Soufriere - Rodney Bay, St. Lucia Crew: Gregg, Jen,
Quinn
0746 - underway |
13°50.534'N,
61°03.811'W |
|
1030 - Anchored in Rodney Bay |
14°04.620'N,
60°57.639'W |
|
1120 - Docked @ Rodney Bay Marina |
14°04.565',
60°57.011'W |
|
Total time (Soufriere-Rodney Bay
Anchorage): 2 hours 44 minutes, Total Distance: 17.11 |
|
3-17-10: Short trip today, not a
lot of wind. Tried to fish again with no success. Spending a
few days in a marina to reload and have Wifi. |
3-24-10
Rodney Bay, St. Lucia - Le Marin, Martinique Crew: Gregg, Jen,
Quinn
0932 - underway |
14°04.566',
60°57.010'W |
|
1300 |
14°20.010',
60°59.726'W |
|
1532 - Anchor down at Le Marin |
14°27.836',
60°52.528'W |
|
Total time: 6 hours (includes 42 minutes
for fueling), Total distance: 31.85 nm |
|
3-24-10: Bouncy ride with wind
waves and swells in front of the beam. We did see dolphins for the
first time in quite a while. Anchorage is quite crowded
and Cul-de-sac du Marin is not the easiest harbor to move around in -
lots of shoals. Case in point, a monohull went hard aground last
night trying to get out of the harbor enroute to Dominica. Gregg
joined in the rescue effort with about 4 other guys on dinghies.
After about 20-30 minutes they were able to get the boat free.
|
3-26-10
Le Marin - Ste. Anne, Martinique Crew: Gregg, Jen,
Quinn
1417 - underway |
14°27.847',
60°52.530'W |
|
1500 - Anchor down at Ste. Anne |
14°26.181',
60°53.220'W |
|
Total time: 43 minutes, Total
distance: 2.591 nm |
|
3-26-10: Short trip
today - just moved around the corner from Le Marin to Ste. Anne, looking
for cleaner water so we can run the watermaker and swim from the boat.
Far too many boats in the harbor at Le Marin for either of those
activities. |
|
3-27-10: Tonight we witnessed our
first high-speed boat chase through an anchorage. Gregg had every
light on the boat turned on to make sure we were visible. A
helicopter searched the coast for 20 minutes. |
3-30-10
Ste. Anne - (Petite) Anse d'Arlet, Martinique Crew: Gregg, Jen,
Quinn
0939 - underway |
14°26.198',
60°53.219'W |
|
1045 |
14°25.274',
60°59.177'W |
|
1255 - Anchor down at Anse d'Arlet |
14°29.383',
61°04.956'W |
|
Total time: 3 hours 16 minutes, total
distance: 16.68 nm |
|
3-30-10: Time for a change of
scenery, so we weighed anchor and headed out. Anse d'Arlet seems
to be a very sleepy, but beautiful little village. The anchorage
is quite rolly - we'll only stay one or two nights. Jen snorkeled
the anchor today and promptly got stung by some type of jellyfish that
left quite a welt on her arm. She didn't see the jelly, so she
can't really speculate as to which type it was. She got stung by
one at Tobago Cays, but it must've been a different type because the
mark it left was not nearly as bad. |
4-1-10
(Petite) Anse d'Arlet - Anse Mitan, Martinique Crew: Gregg, Jen,
Quinn
0931 - underway |
14°29.358',
61°04.958'W |
|
1111 - Anchor down at Anse Mitan |
14°33.564',
61°03.366'W |
|
Total time: 1 hour 40 minutes, total
distance: 7.33 nm |
|
4-1-10: Short motor today into the
wind. We put out fishing lines but caught nothing. We
anchored in hard bottom with rocks and debris, so we'll see how it goes. |
4-7-10
Anse Mitan - Schoelcher (Case Navire), Martinique Crew: Gregg, Jen,
Quinn
1036 - underway |
14°29.566',
61°03.369'W |
|
1132 - Anchor down at Schoelcher |
14°36.755',
61°06.133'W |
|
Total time: 56 minutes, total
distance: 4.399 nm |
|
4-7-10: There's
quite a few things to do at Anse Mitan, i.e., shopping, dining, beach,
hikes, etc., we just had enough of trying to get ashore.
It's very rolly and choppy, and
that makes going from the boat to the dinghy (and vica versa) difficult
if not dangerous. So, it was time to go.
Short trip today, just
around the corner and north of Fort de France. We'll probably stay
here for a couple days then head off to St. Pierre. |
4-9-10
Schoelcher (Case Navire) - St. Pierre, Martinique Crew: Gregg, Jen,
Quinn
0815 - underway |
14°36.754',
61°06.135'W |
|
1000 - caught tuna |
14°43.365',
61°11.323'W |
|
1140 - Anchor down at St. Pierre |
14°44.710',
61°10.671'W |
|
Total time: 3 hours 25 minutes, total
distance: 14.09 nm |
|
4-9-10: Short trip again today with
fluky winds. Motor sailed until we caught about at 10 lb. black
fin tuna (finally sucess!), at which time we dropped the main and Jen
did circles while Gregg cleaned the fish. We will probably stay
here through the weekend, then head for Dominica on Monday or Tuesday. |
4-14-10
St. Pierre, Martinique - Roseau, Dominica Crew: Gregg, Jen,
Quinn
0750 - underway |
14°44.727',
61°10.649'W |
|
1020 |
14°58.550',
61°17.832'W |
|
1303 - moored at Roseau, Dominica |
15°16.778',
61°22.548'W |
|
Total time: 5 hours 13 minutes, total
distance: 35.78 nm |
|
14-14-10: Longer trip today, not
much wind until we were trying to moor. We met up with Windward
Passage yesterday in Martinique and sailed here together today.
They are moored next to us. We plan to do a land tour with them
tomorrow. Didn't catch any fish today, but we did see lots of
dolphins. |
