12-8-09:  Long and busy morning is finally over.  We left Cane Garden Bay at 0725 this morning, sailed to Jost Van Dyke where we cleared out of BVI, then to Cruz Bay, St. John where we cleared into USVI.  The harbor was very crowded with no room for us to anchor, but we were fortunate to find a spot at the US Customs dock to tie up for a short time.  Met up with Windward Passage at Caneel Bay. Very rolly anchorage - we'll only stay here one night.

Caneel Bay - Hawksnest Bay, St. John
Crew: Gregg, Jen, Quinn

Total Time:  16 minutes, Total dist: approx. 1.2 nm
12-9-09:  Stopped to do some snorkeling with Randy & Susan, Windward Passage.  Ended up anchoring the dinghy and swimming ashore.  You can moor for the night here but it's extremely uncomfortable so we only stayed about 90 min.

Hawksnest Bay - Francis Bay, St. John

Total Time:  30 minutes, Total dist: approx. 2 nm
12-10-09: Beautiful and very comfortable spot.  Moored next to Windward Passage again.  Hiked the Francis Bay Trail with Susan on Dec. 10, then had Randy and Susan aboard for dinner - balsamic marinated London Broil, fresh tomato salad and sangria.
12-11-09
Francis Bay - Saltpond Bay, St. John
Crew: Gregg, Jen, Quinn
0753 - underway
18°21.928'N, 64°44.871'W
1047 - moored at Saltpond Bay 18°18.473'N, 64°42.386'W
Total Time:  2 hours 54 minutes, Total dist: 15.8 nm
12-12-09:  The original plan yesterday was to check out Coral Bay with Windward Passage.  We got there first and found a very crowded anchorage that was getting some pretty big swells, so we moved on to Saltpond Bay, which has been a very pleasant stay so far.  There are only 8 moorings here and limited space at other anchorages on the southern side of St. John so we're all a little hesitant to move on, risking not being able to find a spot for the night.  There's some OK snorkeling - the coral here has been abused.  We did see a puffer fish, a ray, a barracuda, some grouper and a couple turtles.  We hiked again today with Susan up to Ram Head, which is about a 2 mile round trip with some fairly rugged terrain.
12-11-09
Saltpond Bay, St. John - Road Town, Tortola, BVI
Crew: Gregg, Jen, Quinn
0808 - underway
18°18.472'N, 64°42.387'W
1040 - docked at Village Cay Marina 18°25.422'N, 64°37.012'W
Total Time: 2 hours 32 minutes, Total dist: 12.46 nm
12-14-09:  Back in Road Town to provision and do some laundry.  Windward Passage is here with us.  We may even get to go to dinner tomorrow night without Quinn because Randy and Susan have volunteered to watch him for the evening.
