6-18-09:  The last few days have just been work.  Actually, since we left Charleston, it's been mostly "moving the boat".  Not great weather, motoring on a schedule.  June 14-17, in particular, were very long days, beginning at the crack of dawn and getting in most days by mid- to late-afternoon. Sunday (the 14th) was the worst day as at about 2 hours into the sail, the wind picked up from the north and we were taking 1-3 ft. waves on the nose.  We've been in much worse, but it was just obnoxious so we went in at Yorktown, VA rather than continuing to Fishing Bay as planned.  Anyway, we made it to Annapolis in time for a Lagoon rendezvous this weekend.

6-20-09:  Very fun weekend thanks to Lagoon.  We participated in the "Lagoon Escapade", a rendezvous for Lagoon owners.  It started last night with a cocktail party/barbeque in Annapolis, then we had a day sail to St. Michaels today, followed by a crab dinner.  We were one of 10 boats participating in the weekend, and one of 3 that did the day sail from Annapolis to St. Michaels.  We really enjoyed having Nick Harvey (Director of Lagoon America) & Brian Hermann (our broker from Catamaran Company) on board for the rainy, but fun sail.

6-26-09:  We decided to hang around in St. Michaels for a couple days after the Lagoon event.  We went in to the marina for some time on the dock to pump out, fill the water tanks, provision, do laundry and take Quinn to the pool.  Then we anchored out for one more night in the harbor.  Left St. Michaels yesterday and we're anchored in Solomons now waiting out some possible weather and taking advantage of fairly easy access to West Marine.  We're planning to head out again tomorrow as we make our way back to Yorktown, VA for the 4th of July festivities... and a week on the dock with a pool.

While we were docked in St. Michaels, we ran into a few people we had met last summer at North Point Marina and heard there were more anchored in the harbor.  Sorry we missed you, Randy!

7-5-09:  After stops at Sandy Point, VA and Fishing Bay, VA, we made it to Gloucester Point (across the river from Yorktown) on June 30.  We spent one night at anchor in the river before moving to the dock on July 1.  Met some really nice people, including Peggy from "Simplicity", who took me to a Super Wal-mart so I could do some provisioning.  We've been having a great time at the marina - Quinn got to go swimming at the pool, we saw the F-15 flyover, then the slipholders on Pier 1 threw a very fun dock party, and the day ended with a fabulous fireworks display put on by the city of Yorktown.  We had a front row view from the bow of Mirasol for the fireworks.  Today is a bit rainy, so we're just hanging out so far, doing laundry and debating if we're going to take Quinn to Busch Gardens tomorrow or not.

7-6-09:  One more provisioning trip tomorrow before we return the car, one more load of wash, then we plan to leave Yorktown on Wednesday and start making our way toward Annapolis for a visit with the Krauses.  Quinn can't wait to see Abby, his "very special girlfriend".

7-7-09:  We did end up renting a car and taking Quinn to Busch Gardens yesterday.  We had been telling him that we had a surprise for him, and we weren't going to tell him what it was until we got there.  Sadly, he asked if we were taking him to a REALLY BIG West Marine.  Any reservations we had about going to Busch evaporated with that. He had an absolute blast.  He is such a little adrenaline junkie.  He was just big enough to ride a few of the wilder rides and he had no fear.  You can't really tell from the photos (except for the "Germany" ones), but if you haven't been, the park is divided into European country sections.  It was pretty cool.  Living on a boat, we didn't buy any of the touristy crap, but we did leave with some great memories and a very happy & tired little boy.

7-19-09:  Today was Quinn's 4th birthday.  We had breakfast on the boat, then went into Annapolis for a while to have lunch and do some shopping before the Krauses had to head back to Chicago.  We had a wonderful visit with them and poor Quinn is beside himself that Abby has left.

7-20-09:  One last piece of business before we leave Annapolis, Quinn's 4-year checkup at the pediatrician, then it's off to Rock Hall.  Looking forward to seeing everyone at North Point again.  Kind of feels like we're going home.

Total Time: 3 hours 27 minutes, Total Dist: 17.56 nm
7-20-09:  After stopping one more time at Annapolis Landing for fuel & pumpout, we headed for Rock Hall with 5-10 knots of wind on the nose.  So, we motored... again.  Cruising into North Point was a nice homecoming of sorts.  It was very nice to see some familiar and friendly faces, even though we are TERRIBLE with names, so please forgive us if we screw up.  We're working on relearning everybody's name and should know them all by the time we leave.  :)

7-27-09:  It's nice to be back in Rock Hall at North Point.  We really missed everyone here.  Jen talked to the marina owner today and confirmed that we could stay at least until the beginning of September - an extra two weeks more than we planned.  We are getting a little overwhelmed with all the things we need to accomplish while we're here.  At the moment, there are no sails on the boat as they are with the sailmaker for a go-over and some slight modifications (adding extra UV protection on the jib, etc.).

9-13-09:  Finally got off the dock for a day sail after nearly two months of sitting.  Felt good to get out.  Mirasol was a bit sluggish (she's loaded down with provisions for cruising), but in the light wind, we did get her up to 5 knots with the gennaker out.

9-21-09:  Took about an hour and three attempts to get the hook set.  Not great holding here.  No wind predicted overnight, we're moving tomorrow.  Shouldn't have to worry about dragging anchor tonight.

9-23-09:  Got an early start so we could pump-out and fill the water tanks at Zahniser's.  Ended up just getting water and leaving.  Had less wind on the nose today so we made better time motoring.  Cautiously optimistic with our anchor's holding here.  Seems to be pretty well stuck - only had to set once.

Total Time: 7 hours 38 minutes (including about 45 min. trip to pump out dock), Total Dist: 53.44 nm
9-27-09:  Dreary and bouncy start to the day.  There were leftover southeasterly swells from last night's storm coupled with fresh chop from the 5-10 knot south-southwest winds this morning.  And rain.  We needed foulies for most of the trip.  We could have sailed almost the whole way, but the weather was less than pleasant so we just decided to make time.  Motorsailed all day.

10-3-09: Had to change slips on the dock to accommodate a much larger boat.

Total Time: 5 hours 24 minutes, Total Dist: 22.41 nm
10-14-09:  We decided to leave Vinings a day early.  There's a strong nor'easter coming and we didn't want to get stuck there for several days as it really wasn't a pleasant spot.  We pumped out before we left, and we stopped at Tidewater Marina for fuel (they are directly across from Waterside so we are topped off for the Norfolk-Tortola passage).  Now we will stay here at Waterside until roughly Nov. 1, when we will be making our longest passage yet, i.e., 8-10 days.
