18°27.319'N,
64°26.470'W |
|
11-22-09: Staged for getting to the
Baths early in the morning. Planned to go yesterday, but a Club
Med "cruise ship" showed up and we decided it would be way too crowded.
Too bad because this is a miserable mooring due to the wakes from the
hi-speed ferries. The Baths was worth the wait. Very cool. |

Tortola Crew: Gregg, Jen, Quinn
0740 - underway |
18°27.314'N,

64°37.069'W |
|
Total time underway: 2 hours 55 minutes,
Total dist: approx 12 nm |
|
11-23-09: The Baths was worth the
wait. Very cool. Med-mooring was interesting. Gregg
had to back the boat up to the ball so Jen could tie on a line, then Jen
walked the line forward while Gregg continued to back up to the dock.
Actually went off pretty well for our first time. |
11-25-09
Road Town, Tortola - Soper's Hole, Tortola Crew: Gregg, Jen, Quinn

|

|
11-25-09: In Soper's Hole, after
some misadventure undocking. Will stay here through Thanksgiving
and maybe longer as Gregg is waiting to meet with a tech from Dell for
his new memory. |

|
1306 - moored at Marina Cay |
18°27.574'N,
64°31.757'W |
|
Total Time: 2 hours 26 minutes, Total
dist: 13.94 nm |
|
12-2-09: Ran into Windward Passage
again. Randy and Susan with guests Mary and Christine. We
were heading for Trellis Bay to get a spot near the beach for the Full
Moon Fire Ball beach party, but there were no moorings available.
While we were turning around to head to Marina Cay, Windward Passage was
coming out of the Trellis Bay mooring field having also had no luck
finding a mooring. We all went to Marina Cay and got spots close
together. They came by to visit for a while before we dinghied
over to Trellis Bay for the party. A note on this mooring field -
it is miserable. Very rolly with typical winds. Also saw a
charter boat come in towing 5 dinghies. They were saving mooring
balls for the other boats in their flotilla. Note to self:
ALWAYS GET IN EARLY. |
12-3-09
Marina Cay - Manchioneel Bay, Cooper Island Crew: Gregg, Jen, Quinn
1055 - underway |
18°27.574'N,
64°31.758'W |
|
1200 - moored at
Cooper Island |
18°23.043'N,
64°30.843'W |
|
Total Time: 65 minutes,
Total dist: 5.485 nm |
|
12-4-09: We like this spot quite a
bit. Still pretty much required to moor (i.e., pay), but it's much
more calm than the last place we were with a beautiful palm-lined beach.
Quiet, too. And the clearest water we've seen yet. |
12-6-09
Cooper Island - Cane Garden Bay, Tortola Crew: Gregg, Jen, Quinn
0918 - underway |
18°23.034'N,
64°30.834'W |
|
1148 - moored at
Cane Garden Bay |
18°25.701'N,
64°39.596'W |
|
Total Time: 2 hours 30 minutes, Total
dist: 16.36 nm |
12-8-09
Cane Garden Bay, Tortola - Jost Van Dyke Crew: Gregg, Jen, Quinn
0725 - underway |
18°25.694'N,
64°39.600'W |
|

18°26.488'N,
64°45.023'W |
|
Total Time: 51 minutes, Total Dist: 5.492
nm |
|
12-8-09: We stopped at Jost Van
Dyke just long enough to clear out of customs before heading to Cruz
Bay, St. John, USVI. Looks like we'll be tagging along with
Windward Passage for a while. |
12-8-09
Jost Van Dyke, BVI - Cruz Bay, St. John, USVI Crew: Gregg, Jen, Quinn
0920 - underway |
18°26.484'N,
64°45.024'W |
|
1040
- docked at US Customs in Cruz Bay |
18°19.935'N,
64°47.668'W |
|
Total Time: 1 hour 20 minutes,
Total Dist: approx. 7.5 nm |
|
12-8-09: Interesting stop at Cruz
Bay. They want you to anchor in the harbor to clear customs but
there is next to no room. We were fortunate to find a spot at the
customs dock for the 20 minutes or so that it took to clear into the
USVI. |
12-17-09
Road Town, Tortola - Great Harbour, Peter Island Crew: Gregg, Jen, Quinn
1205 - underway |
18°25.420'N,
64°37.010'W |
|
1250 - moored at Great Harbour |
18°21.297'N,
64°35.306'W |
|
Total Time: 45 minutes, Total dist: 4.748
nm |
|
12-17-09: Nice spot for snorkeling,
but there was some sort of party at the beach club last night that was
very loud well into the wee hours. Also pretty rolly. We may
come back to snorkel, but it's not really a pleasant spot. We did
have fun playing cribbage with Randy and Susan from Windward Passage
again last night. |
12-18-09
Great Harbour, Peter Island - Leverick Bay, Virgin Gorda Crew: Gregg, Jen, Quinn
0827 - underway |
18°21.312'N,
64°35.315'W |
|
1100 |
18°27.775'N,
64°28.335'W |
|
1225 - moored at Leverick Bay |
18°29.923'N,
64°23.282'W |
|
Total Time: 3 hours 58 minutes, Total
dist: 22.4 nm |
|
12-18-09: Tacked back and forth
across the Sir Francis Drake Channel so we could sail today. On
the rhumb line, it's only about 7 or so nm from Peter Island to Leverick
Bay. Moored next to Windward Passage probably the last time for a
while. They're heading over to Trellis Bay tomorrow and we're
probably going to hang out here until we get our weather to head to St.
Martin. |
12-21-09
Leverick Bay - Spanish Town, Virgin Gorda Crew: Gregg, Jen, Quinn
1055 - underway |
18°29.933'N,
64°23.273'W |
|
1237 - moored at Spanish Town |
18°27.371'N,
64°26.544'W |
|
Total Time: 1 hour 42 minutes, Total
dist: 8.106 nm |
|
12-21-09: Our time on this trip
includes stopping at the fuel dock at Leverick Bay, then doing some
testing on the reef lines Gregg swapped out. We stopped here in
Spanish Town long enough to do a little provisioning, clear out of
customs, prep dinner and shower. |
12-21-09
Spanish Town, Virgin Gorda - Sint Maarten Crew: Gregg, Jen, Quinn
1630 - underway |
18°27.377'N,
64°26.531'W |
|
2210 |
18°16.400'N,
64°00.700'W |
|
0400 |
18°08.087'N,
63°30.730'W |
|
0853 - anchored at Simpson Bay to clear
into customs |
18°01.990'N,
63°05.797'W |
|
12-22-09: We motored overnight from
BVI with next to no wind, so it was a smooth ride but we burned diesel
the whole trip. Tried to fish a little as we crossed through the
drop off, but caught nothing. Got into St. Maarten waters at 0853.

December 22, 2009
- April 26, 2010: Leeward and Windward Islands (click
here for Windwards log, click here
for Leewards log) |
4-27-10
Spanish Town, Virgin Gorda - Cooper Island Crew: Gregg, Jen, Quinn
1200 - underway |
18°27.312'N,
64°26.488'W |
|
1307 - moored @ Manchioneel Bay, Cooper
Island |
18°23.117'N,
64°30.829'W |
|
Total time: 67 minutes, total distance:
5.975 nm |
|
|
4-27-10: Got cleared in and did
some provisioning and got out of Spanish Town as quickly as possible,
going from one of our least favorite spots in BVI to one of our most
favorite. Last time we were here they hadn't finished their new
restaurant yet, but now it is finished. A bit pricey,
unfortunately, and too fancy for a 4 year old. This is a great
spot though... quiet, nice water, good snorkeling, great view. We
also got Wifi and received email only to find out that Windward Passage
had changed plans after sailing to Anguilla. They are now in BVI
as well. |
4-28-10
Cooper Island - Biras Creek, Virgin Gorda Crew: Gregg, Jen, Quinn
0930 - underway |
18°23.117'N,
64°30.830'W |
|
1235 - moored at Biras Creek, North
Sound, Virgin Gorda |
18°29.588'N,
64°21.541'W |
|
Total time: 3 hours 5 minutes, total
distance: 16.73 nm |
|
4-28-10: We left Cooper Island with
the intention of mooring in Trellis Bay for the Full Moon Party tonight,
however, when we arrived the anchorage was packed and Marina Cay
(another near by, but very uncomfortable dinghy ride) was also filling
up quickly. Having gone to the party once before, we opted to head
for Virgin Gorda. Gregg then called Windward Passage to find out
where they were going and they said Biras Creek to go to dinner at the
Fat Virgin Cafe, so here we are. They were getting some work done
on their jib so they should be here later this afternoon... or not. |
4-29-10
Biras Creek - Leverick Bay, Virgin Gorda Crew: Gregg, Jen, Quinn
0950 - underway |
18°29.588'N,
64°21.541'W |
|
1015 - moored at Leverick Bay |
18°29.946'N,
64°23.216'W |
|
Total time: 25 minutes, total distance:
1.731 nm |
|
4-29-10: Just moved over to Leverick
today to do laundry and give Quinn some pool time. We'll stay
through tomorrow to see the Jumbies again. |
5-5-10
Leverick Bay - Bitter End Yacht Club, Virgin Gorda Crew: Gregg, Jen, Quinn
1513 - underway |
18°29.935'N,
64°23.223'W |
|
1543 - Moored at Bitter End |
18°29.872'N,
64°21.533'W |
|
Total time: 30 minutes, total distance:
1.745 nm |
|
5-5-10: Moved over from Leverick
today to spend one more night with Windward Passage before we head for
Road Town. Their guests on board wanted to go to the restaurant at
Bitter End for dinner and they kindly included us. Anyway, it took
us a couple of attempts at mooring before we found a ball we liked. It's
the end of the season and the pendants and lines are starting to look a
little rough (not just at Bitter End - we've noticed the wear of the
season at most places). |
5-6-10
Bitter End Yacht Club, Virgin Gorda - Trellis Bay, Beef Island Crew: Gregg, Jen, Quinn
0935 - underway |
18°29.871'N,
64°21.533'W |
|
1150 - moored at Trellis Bay |
18°26.886'N,
64°31.877'W |
|
Total time: 2 hours 15 minutes,
total distance: 13.42 nm |
|
5-6-10: This stop on the way to
Road Town was a last minute decision. We wanted to stop and do a
little shopping at Aragorn's Studio (a popular local artist) in the
village, but we were debating if we should stop on the way or just take
a cab from Road Town. Well, obviously, we decided to stop and pick
up a mooring for an hour or so. We're glad we stopped. Quinn
got a new and really cool t-shirt, and we bought a beautiful bowl that
we will store until we move ashore. |
5-6-10
Trellis Bay, Beef Island - Road Town, Tortola Crew: Gregg, Jen, Quinn
1245 - underway |
18°26.891'N,
64°31.875'W |
|
1416 - docked at Village Cay Marina, Road
Town |
18°25.447'N,
64°37.052'W |
|
Total time: 1 hour 31 minutes, total
distance: 8.539 nm |
|
5-6-10: Spending a couple days in
the marina to make provisioning for the passage more convenient.
Jen plans to do some more laundry and Quinn has already been in the
pool. |
