6-6-08: Gregg says they expect to make landfall at Madeira some time tomorrow (6/7). They will have to stop and anchor first, because apparently, there is a plastic bag wrapped around the port prop and they think there might be fishing line wrapped around the starboard. François will be diving to remove the bag and the line.

6-7-08: They're in the marina on Porto Santo. The plastic or whatever was wrapped around the port side prop cleared itself. But the starboard prop needs to be removed to get the fishing line off, if it can be fixed at this point. On top of the prop problems, when they went to anchor to look at the props, the windlass didn't work and they couldn't anchor. Anyway, Gregg will be catching the ferry over to Madeira (since the work on the prop won't get started before Monday, 6/9), then catching a flight to Paris, and then to Chicago from there.

6-9-08: Gregg is staying at a hotel in Paris - has quite a long layover before the flight back to Chicago. He did send me a couple more photos from his trip. I called our boat broker this morning to find out the condition of the prop. He was out of the loop, but he got back to me within a few minutes to let me know that they had cleared the problem and he had the bonus good news that the new crew would be there tomorrow.

6-10-08: Gregg said the prop had been fixed and that he had narrowed down the problem with the windlass to the relay switch. Unclear if that has been repaired. Got a message from the liaison for the delivery company saying that the boat was leaving Porto Santo today.

6-11-08: The boat is on it's way somewhere. There was some discussion of Bermuda... possibly straight through to Annapolis. We do have a position update (see chart above).

6-17-08: The hunt for the tradewinds. The mid-Atlantic high and its associated tradewinds have been pushed way south by a series of lows plowing through the Azores. It looks like the delivery crew is heading south to follow those tradewinds but are stuck without much wind right now.

6-20-08: Today's report & position update is courtesy of François' grandfather, Jacques. Everything is OK on board. Speed 5.5 knots; wind ENE 10 knots.

6-22-08: Today's update is again courtesy of François' grandfather, Jacques. He says the wind is ENE at 15-20 knots and their average speed 5.8 knots.

6-25-08: Today's update is again courtesy of François' grandfather, Jacques. He says their average speed over the last couple of days is 6.3 knots. My estimate is that the boat will be in Annapolis sometime around July 11 and we should be able to get on about 2 weeks after that. Or not. It is my understanding that they will only be stopping in Bermuda if they need gas/provisions.

6-29-08: OOPS! Jacques is François' father, not his grandfather. Very sorry, Jacques... thank you so much for correcting us and for sending the updates! Today's update is courtesy of Jacques.

Light winds from ENE (5 to 10 knots)
Distance to Bermuda: 490 nm
Distance covered in one week: 997 nm ( 06-22 to 06-29 )
Average distance covered in 24 hours: 142.4 nm
Average speed: 5.93 knots

He says the the boat and the crew enjoy the cruise.

7-2-08: We didn't get coordinates this time, we just got an ETA in Bermuda of tomorrow afternoon or evening.

7-7-08: The boat & crew left Bermuda for Annapolis yesterday. Shouldn't be long now. They only have approximately 600 nm to go! My math says they should make Annapolis by this weekend - maybe Friday afternoon?

7-11-08: Got a position update this morning - first one in a few days. They've made great progress and expect to be in Annapolis some time tomorrow afternoon.

7-14-08: They got in Saturday at before 10 a.m. Catamaran Co. needs a couple weeks to get the boat cleaned up and make any repairs needed from the delivery. Hopefully, we will be on the boat by Monday, July 28. Any news until we take possession will be published on our blog.
